Fog Over the Bay

The San Francisco Bay is really a bowl surrounded by decent sized hills and an opening through the Golden Gate to the Pacific.  This is what we looked like this morning, with the fog settled in.

And this is how it looked out the door:

I’ve always been enchanted by the fog.  Add the foghorns over by the Golden Gate and the spell is complete!

  1. No - ya gotta add the movie with Adrrienne Barbeaus and THEN the image is complete :-) Boy do I miss the Bay Area,

Adding Adrienne Barbeau is always a good idea!

  2. I am fascinated by fog too and we do have a few days of that every winter. Having had close shaves while living in Delhi where the fog can be like the proverbial pea soup, I prefer to let the sun come up before venturing out.

It has an enchanting quality. Where it is the most powerful in my experience is when it is combined with mountains or woods!

  3. Sooo that's what going on with you, Fossil. Your livin' in a fog, got your head in the clouds so to speak. Hey, maybe it's the best place to be.

  4. Nothing romantic about the fog we get in Ireland. It is really cold hanging rain that soaks right through you, in freezing weather it can drop in patches and driving becomes a nightmare as you suddenly lose the road and scenery ahead. This is one of my experiences with fog

We have that situation as you move toward the Central Valley. People on the road will suddenly find themselves entering a fog bank and then the terror begins. You are not only afraid of what is in front of you, you are afraid of what is coming from behind! We have some massive pileups in those conditions and some serious injuries at times. That is called Tule fog and is written on here:
