A Roman Cowboy

italy_trip_-_summer_2007_434

Grannymar, Ramana, Delirious, Alice, Nick and anyone I missed were discussing GM’s Living Statues she photographed on the street.  This is a guy Lady F, Lafawnda and I saw in Rome.  He could stay in the pose you see above virtually endlessly and his makeup was superb for you didn’t even notice the slight rubbing away at his neck until looking at the photo later.

This gentleman stopped to be photographed next to him when, to his amusement:

The statue came to life!

  1. Cool! You can see the whites of his eyes in the second photo. The face is more realistic than in my capture in Dublin.

    1. He isn't wearing a mask. It is just makeup.

    2. I realised that, the face looks natural, in Dublin the false faces put me off. I must take a closer look next time I come across statues in Dublin.

    1. Look at the position of the gun in the two photos.

  3. Yes, that is funny. Thanks for the laugh.

I wonder how these guys manage to stay motionless. Normally I'd ask them but I dare say to make them talk would rather defeat their object. And for the life of me I have never caught any of them when they pack up and go home. I find the whole concept rather eerie. I remember once, I think it was in London, dreamily looking into a huge shop window when one of the "dummies" in the display winked at me. Frightened the wits out of me for a moment.

  4. I would have guessed it wasn't a statue simply because a statue is normally in an upright position. I love the way he draws a gun in the second picture!

  5. I first read about this phenomenon in the book - Brené Brown's
The Gifts of Imperfection in which she introduces a lady who did this for a living. I wondered how someone could be so still for so long and I still do.

  9. My first exposure to this art form was at a wax museum in LA - the lady in front of me nearly fainted when the "wax" bobby said hello to her
