My Favorite Vacation Spot

There are two vacations that immediately jump to the fore for my wife and me, Italy and New Zealand.

Here is the view from the Rialto Bridge across the Grand Canal in Venice.

And this is with Lafawnda and the Lady Fossil in Waimangu, New Zealand.

We will never beat those vacations.  Then again, we won’t try.  Each trip, each vacation, each week, stands on its own.  If it leaves great memories, it was a great vacation.  These two trips left magnificent memories!

As far as that goes, we live where many people go for vacation.  San Francisco, Yosemite, the Napa Valley, Big Sur, San Diego – these are all part of our regular route.  We love them.

We are looking forward to trying to go to Hawaii this September.  But … well short of that, we will be scouting out Fresno for Flash and Lafawnda’s move in a couple of weeks.

We’ve never been to Fresno.  I’ve never heard anyone say that are going to Fresno for their vacation.  Well, we’ve been incredibly busy for awhile – thus one post a week for the past few - and we’ll be away from our normal busy-ness and I’m sure we won’t forget it.

Sounds like a vacation.  How sweet!

  1. You mention Fresno - I spent a week there one day. But the joys of riding Hwy 99 and its many (at least back when I was there) roadside fruit & veg stands - especially those well stocked with pistachios - brings fond memories.

No one talks about Fresno as a vacation destination for a reason, LOL. Like we used to say about Kansas, "It's a decent place to live, but I sure wouldn't want to visit here!" But, I'm still looking forward to the adventure and the change!

Now, as to those stands ... well, I'm trying to cut back a few more pounds, but a few fruits and veggies won't hurt, right?

  3. i have been to Italy a couple of times, but never made it to Venice. I am told you have to be careful of the months you visit. The stink can spoil the views!

Now I will travel for pistachios. I love pistachios. Did I tell you that I LOVE PISTACHIOS!

  4. I went to Fresno once to go to the open house of one of our new temples there. I agree though that in the Bay area you can leave the house in the morning and have a great adventure in a beautiful location, and return home again that night. You can do that every day of the week, and each day go to a different location. It's an amazingly beautiful place.

  5. Venice brings back many memories for me too and New Zealand is on my bucket list as is the Bay Area and Inshallah, Fresno with the Hakes.

Rather than Hawai, I would like to go to the Bahamas. More British I am told. So cricket rather than baseball!

Fresno, today, looked a lot like parts of Kansas. But it was a good trip and we got a good apartment for the kids. Lafawnda did a fantastic job of laying the groundwork.

You are right about how lucky we are in the Bay Area. There is a lot to find interesting! Now, I just need to win the lottery and I'm set!

One of these days, I've got to discover cricket! I have little idea of how it is played and I'm sure my fantasies are totally inaccurate. I only know a few words associated with it (googly, wicket and the term sticky wicket). Is a googly a curve ball? Do you run bases? Is the idea a lot like baseball?
