Cameras in my youth were large, clunky boxes and it took quite awhile for the pictures to return for examination. It was always a joy to see if ANY of them were good. Kind of like Christmas morning, unwrapping gifts.
Times have changed with digital photography. A camera is portable, pictures instant, the process itself free. That means each picture is one amongst a sea of pictures and the Christmas morning feeling is lost. But … it also means that images in the moment can be archived that would have been lost in the past. It gives a new freedom, a new spontaneity to picture taking, for there are now thousands of pictures in my archives I can draw from. Some are worthless, but others are priceless.
Somewhere between is the simple appreciation of beauty. This is a photo I took while the Lady and I were out for a stroll. Oak leaves in a parking lot …
Ahhh …
The patterns made by the fallen leaves and the colours in the photo above are amazing. I have used oak leaves in designs for creative embroidery many times over the years.
ReplyDeleteIndeed. I love their patterns. This picture kind of reminds me of the puzzles you often see. You know, the kind that drive you crazy! LOL
DeleteAhhhhhhhhhhh! Indeed. One of my 2012 intentions is to familiarise myself with my camera and take some photographs.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to see the pictures you post. You seem like a man who appreciates the simple, aesthetic aspects of life.
